Instagram and Facebook only — what's actually missing?

Plenty of Dubai businesses run entirely on social media. Here's what a website adds that Instagram and Facebook can't.

A lot of small Dubai businesses get by perfectly well on Instagram and Facebook alone, and there's nothing wrong with that as a starting point — it's fast, free, and customers are already there. But there are a few specific things social media can't do, no matter how good your content is.

You don't actually own it

Your Instagram or Facebook page can be suspended, restricted, or lost to a hacked account with very little recourse — and it happens to real businesses more often than people expect. A website, on the other hand, sits on a domain and hosting account that belongs to you. Nobody can take it down over a reporting mistake or an algorithm change.

Google mostly can't see it

When someone searches Google for a service you offer, an Instagram profile rarely shows up the way a real website can. Search engines are built to index websites — pages with proper titles, descriptions, and structure — not social feeds. If you want to be found by people who don't already follow you, a website is doing a job Instagram simply isn't built for.

The algorithm decides who sees you, not you

Even your existing followers don't see everything you post — the platform decides that, and it changes without notice. A website has no algorithm standing between your business and a visitor. Once someone lands on it, they see everything you've put there, in the order you chose.

First impressions are harder to control

A social feed is chronological — a new visitor has to scroll to piece together what you actually offer, what it costs, and why they should trust you. A website lets you put your strongest case first: clear services, real proof, and one obvious next step, instead of asking a stranger to dig for it.

So which one do you need?

Usually not "either or." Instagram and Facebook are still where a lot of Dubai customers discover businesses day to day — a website is where they go to actually decide. The two work best together: social media for reach and personality, a website for trust and conversion.

If you're only on social media right now and not sure whether it's time to add a website, send us your Instagram or Facebook page — we'll tell you honestly what a website would actually change for your specific business.
